Stuck, confused, or found a word we missed? Start here. If your answer isn't below, email support@humdropgame.com and a real person will write back.

How do I play?
  • Drag letter pieces from the tray onto the board.
  • Line letters up into a word of three or more letters, reading left to right or top to bottom. A real word is in tune: it wobbles and clears, and each of its Humdrops becomes a note on the music sheet.
  • Grumbles creep in from the edges of the board, paving it over so it stays quiet. A crack appears one move before a Grumble climbs through: put a letter on the crack to plug it.
  • Wobble a word next to Grumbles and it shakes them apart. Words of five letters or more make a bigger chord that shakes further.
  • When the music sheet is full, tap Maestro Hum for the Big Wobble and pick where it lands: it shakes a 3×3 patch of the board apart.
  • The game is over when none of your pieces fit. Journey levels have their own goal and a set number of pieces.
A word didn't count

If it didn't count, it was out of tune. Humdrop uses a curated list of familiar, everyday words, so very rare words, names and abbreviations may not count. Also check that the word reads left to right or top to bottom and is at least three letters long.

Think we've missed a real word? Email it to support@humdropgame.com with the subject "Missing word". Good ones go into the next update.

Restoring purchases

Purchases belong to the Apple Account you bought them with, not to one device. To get them back on a new or reset device, sign in to the App Store with that same Apple Account and open Humdrop.

If something you bought still isn't there, email us with the item and roughly when you bought it. Please don't send payment card details; we never need them. Apple handles all payments and refunds (see your purchase history in your Apple Account).

Choirs, Open Stage and Echoes

Every word you clear, in any mode, adds a note to a song (up to 60 a day). Choirs are small groups of friends singing one song a week; Open Stage is a song anyone can join or leave at any time; Echoes let you see a friend's best Daily word. When a song finishes, everyone who sang gets a reward, even if you'd already left: Pip brings it in a letter.

These are for players 13 and older. You get a made-up nickname, and there's no chat. To leave a Choir, open it and tap Leave. To remove everything you've shared, go to Settings › Privacy › Delete my shared game data.

Ads and Humdrop Plus

Humdrop is free, and ads help pay for it. You see an ad between some games, never in the middle of a move, and you can choose to watch one for a reward such as doubling a chest. Ads are non-personalized, and players under 13 don't get any.

Humdrop Plus is a one-time purchase that removes the in-between ads for good and adds coins, boosters and outfits. It belongs to your Apple Account, so it comes back if you restore purchases.

Why does the game ask my age?

To keep the game right for everyone. Your answer (an age group, not a birthday) stays on your device and is never sent anywhere. Under 13 means no ads and no shared play; 13 to 17 means extra limits on ads. Answered wrongly? Delete and reinstall the game to be asked again (your progress on this device will be lost, so finish your streak first!).

Turning off analytics

On the Home screen, tap the gear to open Settings and switch off Share anonymous usage data. From then on the game sends nothing at all. The data was anonymous to begin with: no names, no emails and none of the words you play. Details are in the privacy policy.

Daily Puzzle reminders

In Settings, switch on Daily Puzzle reminder and choose a time. You'll get a nudge when a new Daily Puzzle is ready, and no reminder on days you've already played. Reminders are scheduled on your device only; nothing is sent anywhere.

Not getting them? Notifications for Humdrop may be off in iOS. The game's Settings will show Open iOS Settings; tap it and allow notifications.

When does the Daily Puzzle reset?

At midnight, local time, in your device's time zone. Each calendar date has one board, the same for everyone, so you and your friends can compare scores for the day.

Can I calm the wobbling down?

Yes. In Settings, switch on Reduce Motion to stop idle bouncing and keep reactions small (the game also follows the iOS Reduce Motion setting). You can turn off Humdrop faces too, as well as sound and haptics.

Deleting your data

Your progress and settings live only on your device, so deleting the app deletes them. If you've played with others, first go to Settings › Privacy › Delete my shared game data, which erases your nickname, notes, Choirs and Echoes from our server. The anonymous statistics can't be tied to you, so there's nothing personal for us to delete; switch off Share anonymous usage data to stop any more being sent. Purchases stay with your Apple Account. More in the privacy policy.
